Titanium, Nickel, Inconel, Duplex Welding Training & Consultancy Services

In short: We train and qualify welders on duplex and super duplex stainless steel, titanium, Inconel and other nickel alloys at our Vasai (E) centre in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and provide consultancy on procedures for these materials. These alloys are unforgiving: get the heat input, purging or interpass temperature wrong and the joint loses the corrosion resistance it was specified for, often without looking defective.

Quick facts

  • Where: Mahalaxmi Industrial Estate, Vasai (E), Vasai-Virar, Thane-Palghar 401208. Trainees come from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Vasai-Virar, Palghar and the refinery and petrochemical belts.
  • Grades covered: duplex 2205 and 2304, super duplex 2507 and Zeron 100, titanium grades 2 and 5, Inconel 625 and 825, Monel, and austenitic stainless including 316L.
  • Processes: GTAW (TIG) primarily, since these materials are usually TIG-welded, plus SMAW and FCAW where the application allows.
  • Who it is for: experienced welders moving onto alloy work, and companies whose welders need qualifying for a specific alloy on a project.
  • Who teaches: Mr. Prakash Jadhav, our founder, an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI, ID 733626) and TWI CSWIP inspector with over 26 years in welding inspection.
  • Fees and duration: quoted on request, because both depend on the alloy, the processes and whether a class society qualification follows. Call +91 8169178256 or message us on WhatsApp.

Why these materials need separate training

Duplex and super duplex. The whole point of duplex is a roughly even balance of austenite and ferrite. Weld it too cold and you get excess ferrite in the heat-affected zone; too hot and you get intermetallic phases. Either way the corrosion resistance you paid for is gone, and a visual inspection will not show it. Heat input control and interpass temperature limits are the skill being taught, not bead appearance.

Titanium. Titanium picks up oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen from the air while hot and turns brittle. The work is really about shielding: trailing shields, back purging, gas coverage until the weld cools, and reading the weld colour, where straw is acceptable and blue or grey is not. A clean-looking titanium weld can still be scrap.

Inconel and nickel alloys. Sluggish, viscous weld pools that do not flow like steel, with a real tendency to hot cracking. Travel speed, bead placement and dilution control are what separate a sound joint from a cracked one.

What the training covers

  1. Material behaviour. What each alloy does when heated, and why the specification sets the limits it does.
  2. Heat input and interpass control. Measuring it, staying inside the window, and what happens outside it.
  3. Purging and shielding. Back purge setup, oxygen level targets, trailing shields and gas selection.
  4. Joint preparation and cleanliness. Contamination control, dedicated tooling and why carbon steel debris ruins a stainless or titanium joint.
  5. Acceptance and testing. Ferrite measurement for duplex, weld colour assessment for titanium, and the NDT and mechanical tests the applicable code requires.
  6. Qualification. Preparation for the welder qualification test on the alloy, including DNV, ABS, Lloyds or IRCLASS endorsement where the project requires it.

Frequently asked questions

Do you train on super duplex 2507 specifically?

Yes, along with duplex 2205 and 2304. Super duplex has a tighter heat input window than standard duplex, so it is treated as its own exercise rather than an extension of 2205 work.

What is the fee for duplex or titanium welding training in Mumbai?

Quoted on request. It depends on which alloys you need, how many processes, how long you train and whether a class society qualification test follows. Call +91 8169178256 with your target and we will give you a figure.

Why does my titanium weld look blue?

Blue means oxygen pickup, which means the shielding or purge was inadequate while the weld was still hot. Straw or light gold is generally acceptable; blue, grey or white powdery is not and the joint is usually rejected. Shielding setup is most of what titanium training actually is.

Can you qualify our welders on Inconel for a refinery job?

Yes. Send us the specification, the alloy grade and the number of welders. Nickel alloy work comes up regularly in the refinery and petrochemical belt, and the test can run at our centre or your plant.

Do I need existing welding experience?

Yes, for this one. Alloy work is not where to learn to weld. You should be competent in TIG on stainless or carbon steel first; then this training is about controlling the variables these materials are sensitive to.

Why did our duplex weld pass visual and NDT but still fail the client?

Most likely a ferrite balance or intermetallic problem from heat input outside the specified window. Duplex can look sound and still have lost its corrosion resistance, which is why the specification sets heat input and interpass limits rather than only acceptance criteria for appearance. This is the commonest duplex problem we are called in to investigate.

Can you develop the welding procedure as well as train the welders?

Yes. WPS preparation and PQR qualification for these alloys is part of our consultancy work, and it usually makes sense to settle the procedure before qualifying welders against it.
