Third-Party Inspection Services for Welding & Structural Works
In short: Third-party inspection (TPI) is independent verification of welding and fabrication work by an inspection body with no stake in the job. Apeiwtes AWS Technology Center, based at Vasai (E) in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, provides TPI for fabricators, shipyards, EPC contractors and equipment buyers across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Vasai-Virar, Palghar and the wider Maharashtra industrial belt, as well as at vendor works elsewhere in India.
Quick facts
- Based at: Mahalaxmi Industrial Estate, Vasai (E), Vasai-Virar, Thane-Palghar 401208.
- Where we inspect: at your works or your vendor’s works. Taloja, Rabale, Airoli, Bhiwandi, Boisar and the Vasai-Virar fabrication belt are within easy reach; we also travel for vendor inspection across India.
- What we inspect: welding and structural fabrication, pressure parts, piping, marine and offshore assemblies, coatings and galvanizing.
- Who inspects: work is led by Mr. Prakash Jadhav, our founder, an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI, ID 733626) and TWI CSWIP inspector with over 26 years in welding inspection, and certified by TUV to EN ISO 14731 for welding coordination.
- Codes we inspect against: ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1 and D1.6, ISO 3834 and ISO 9606, IS 2062 and IS 800, AISC and ASTM, plus client specifications.
- Engagement basis: per visit, per stage, or as a resident inspector for the duration of a job. Quoted on request once we see the scope and the Inspection Test Plan. Call +91 8169178256 or message us on WhatsApp.
When a buyer or contractor calls us in
TPI is usually triggered by one of four situations. A client contract makes independent inspection a condition of payment or handover. A purchaser wants a vendor’s work verified before it leaves the shop. A classification society or statutory inspector requires a witness at stated hold points. Or a job has already gone wrong, and the rework has to be documented properly so it is accepted the second time.
In each case the value is the same: an independent record that the work matches the drawing, the WPS and the code, produced by someone who does not benefit from passing it.
How we work on a job
- Scope and ITP review. We read the Inspection Test Plan, drawings, WPS, PQR and client specification, and agree the hold points and witness points with you.
- Pre-fabrication stage. Material traceability and MTC review, welder qualification verification, equipment calibration, consumable storage, and fit-up inspection.
- In-process stage. Welding parameters, inter-pass temperature, filler and gas verification, and adherence to the approved welding sequence.
- Post-weld stage. Final visual inspection, NDT coordination and witnessing, dimensional checks, weld size verification, and repair control.
- Documentation. TPI checklists, Inspection Release Certificates, Non-Conformance Reports where required, and the final dossier for project handover.
โ What is Third-Party Inspection (TPI)?
Third-Party Inspection (TPI) refers to independent, unbiased verification services carried out by a certified inspection body that is not directly involved in the manufacturing, fabrication, or installation process.
In the context of welding and structural fabrication, TPI ensures that the work is executed as per the approved design, codes, quality plans, and international standards, providing assurance to clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities.

Frequently asked questions
What does TPI stand for?
TPI stands for Third-Party Inspection. The third party is an inspection body independent of both the manufacturer and the purchaser, engaged to verify that work meets the drawing, the welding procedure and the applicable code.
How much do third-party inspection services cost?
It depends on the engagement. A single witness visit is priced differently from stage-wise inspection across a fabrication programme or a resident inspector posted for the duration of a job. Send us the Inspection Test Plan and the location and we will quote the scope.
Do you inspect at our works or your premises?
At your works, or at your vendor’s works. Our own facility at Vasai (E) is used for welder qualification and NDT; inspection is carried out wherever the fabrication is happening.
Can you witness welder qualification and procedure qualification?
Yes. Third-party witnessing of WPS, PQR and welder qualification is one of our core services, and it is often what a client or classification society specifically requires before production welding starts.
What reports do we receive?
TPI checklists, Inspection Release Certificates, Non-Conformance Reports where issues are found, site observation reports, a welding and NDT summary, and a final dossier for project handover.
Which codes do you inspect against?
ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1 and D1.6, ISO 3834 and ISO 9606, IS 2062 and IS 800, AISC and ASTM, plus any client-specific specification supplied with the contract.
How quickly can you attend a site in the Mumbai region?
For the Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Vasai-Virar and Palghar belt we can usually attend at short notice. For vendor inspection elsewhere in India, give us the location and date and we will confirm availability.
